Moderna: AI Helped Create Injectable mRNA

This is a story about Dave Johnson, Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer at Moderna, describing how "AI Helped Create A Vaccine." (See: https://www.technologyreview.com/2022/08/26/1058743/i-was-there-when-ai-helped-create-a-vaccine-covid-moderna-mrna/).  It was published at the (ultra liberal) MIT Technology Review.  Johnson is a real guy, with a Linked-In profile and everything (see below).  And AI helped Moderna create mRNA vaccines just like AI helped me create the image of "vaccine manufacturing by evil scientists" to the right?  Notice how accurate and informative it is...

All I can say is WOW.

I've been subscribed to the MIT Technology Review for some time - there is a paywall.  This article is available as a podcast as well (and no, the links in this block below don't seem to work well or at all):

This interview is remarkable for several reasons.

One, it appears to be "outside" any sort of corporate control.

Two, it really sounds like a "data guy" just talking about random data (though not data that, if used incorrectly, could kill or injure someone).

And finally, it describe a "shoot from the hip, wild west" sort of business model that says "let's get our technology out the door cause it's gonna save everybody testing be damned" rather than something you might expect form the CDC, FDA or even run-of-the-mill "big pharma."

There is an interviewer, Jennifer Strong.

Here's a few quotes from the article (Dave Johnson speaking):  "Let's take out decision making away from, you know, scientists who don't wanna just stare and look at data over and over and over again. But let's use their insights. Let's build models and algorithms to automate their analyses and, you know, do a much better job and much faster job of predicting outcomes and improving the quality of our, our data."

So the scientists, who understand this stuff, aren't needed?

"... so when this sequence [Covid] was first released by Chinese authorities, it was only 42 days for us to go from taking that sequence, identifying, you know, these are the mutations we wanna do. This is the protein we want to target."

Mutations?  Of what exactly... Hmmm.

"Forty-two days from that point to actually building up clinical-grade, human safe manufacturing, batch, and shipping it off to the clinic—which is totally unprecedented. I think a lot of people were surprised by how fast it moved"

The article goes on to describe the studies, how the data "drove" the studies, how the studies were modified to "keep up" with the fast pace.

This is the most ridiculous nonsense I have ever heard.

The idea here was to basically use a bunch of data collected over a decade, take some AI, and whip up mRNA to inject in humans.  In forty two (42) days no less.

Data and results not working out as planned?

(Dave Johnson speaking): "We got, I wanna say, maybe 80% of the way through the study. And we realized, look, we are not gonna meet our, our objectives because the level of volunteers aren't quite what we wanted [ Emphasis mine, what does this mean I wonder? ]. And so we made the, the really difficult decision to say, look, we need a throttle, some areas of the country and focus on outreach in different areas to get the right makeup so that the study was representative."

This is not science at all.  Neither is it medicine.

It's a badly run software/big data experiment with robots diddling vats of mRNA.

How long has Tesla been struggling with various autopilot efforts?

Would you want you child riding on a school bus with some AI developed "autonomous driving module" developed as described above?

"Hey, it's July 15th and school starts end of August.  These test results aren't what we expected so let's run some different tests..."

Another Email from Putin...

As you may recall a few years back I had a detailed correspondence with Putin regarding the state of elections in the US (see: https://lwgat.blogspot.com/2016/12/another-note-from-putin.html and https://lwgat.blogspot.com/2016/12/just-got-note-from-putin.html).

I had not had any contact with Putin in some time so I thought our days of correspondence had ended, especially due to Ukraine.

But yesterday, lo and behold, I received a new email:

Dear Mr. Lone Wolf -

Much has transpired since last I wrote regarding my voting in your 2016 US election.

I thought it important to bring you and your readers up to speed on my view of current events.

As you know, Russia has significantly advanced the lives of its citizenry over the last thirty years.  As a people we now travel and work freely abroad, including in the US and western Europe.  We regularly post Youtube videos regarding Russian life which, despite world events, are uncensored and monetized.

I am quite proud of this, especially considering Russian and Soviet history.

Unfortunately for you and the United States, Ms. Pelosi and "the big guy" are working diligently to implement the 1963 agenda of communism and censorship espoused by the Soviet empire - I believe have you covered this agenda in one of your blogs [indeed - see: https://lwgat.blogspot.com/2016/06/seems-this-post-was-lost-1963-communist.html].  Remarkably they are doing quite will at this.

I personally find it fascinating that Google, your blog provider, would delete your original post related to these matters.  I see also your posts regarding masks, vaccines and Ms. Jessica Rose on Twitter, for example, have been censored on various social media platforms [again, indeed and  see: https://lwgat.blogspot.com/2022/06/44-more-deaths-in-2022-sads-isnt-it.html].

Regardless it is important that correct information regarding vaccines, Ukraine, Russian life and so forth are available uncensored on platforms such as Telegram and Substack.  I am glad to see you following Dr. Robert Malone, Joe Rogan, Patrick Lancaster, Eli from Russia,"The Duran" and "Brian Berletic's New Atlas."

My pensioner friends from the Soviet KGB and TASS "olden days," as you say, are quite in awe of how your "western media" is able to totally control and manipulate the thoughts of the US and western populace.  Try as we might we Soviets could never pull the "wool", as you say, over our populations' eyes as they have.

Perhaps your citizens are not as smart as Russians?

Some final thoughts.

I also flattered to see "the big guy" working hard on our behalf to make a gold-backed ruble the viable reserve currency to replace the US dollar.  Whether you agree with our "special military action" or not it does not seem to be in the West's bests interest to dislodge the US dollar from this position.  Yet that appears to be his ultimate goal.

I also wonder how "the big guy" will afford to implement a "green" energy policies once China and Xi back into a ruble-based BRICS reserve currency?

Truly "the big guy" is quite an embarrassment on the international stage - you see I am quite the fan of Australia's Sky News.

Thanks you and regards -

Vladimir
